As we age, our lips sort of deflate and also have noticeable wrinkling. Of course, note that things such as smoking and sun exposure exacerbate the aging of the lips. Injectable fillers from Zenn Plastic Surgery help you with this problem by providing a plumper appearance to thin, aging lips. In addition to providing a boost in volume, these lip fillers can also smooth out wrinkles, providing a more youthful appearance that looks natural. And with no downtime or recovery, lip augmentation in Raleigh is a great solution for patients who aren’t ready to jump into more extensive cosmetic procedures such as fat grafting.
Lip augmentation with lip filler is not a procedure only for aged lips. Some of our younger patients at Zenn Plastic Surgery have never had the full lips they desire. Lip filler can help here as well. Careful and artistic placement of filler can create new plumpness. And also define new ridges that highlight your lips to give lips the fullness you may desire.
Aesthetic nurse specialist, Mary Shaver, performs lip augmentation injections. Mary has many years of experience providing patients with beautiful lips. In fact, she has quite a large following at ZPS. People come from all over for lip augmentation treatment at Zenn Plastic Surgery.
If you are unhappy with the size and shape of your lips, then lip augmentation may be the solution for you. Finally, get the lips you crave with lip augmentation at Zenn Plastic Surgery.
Zenn Plastic Surgery’s Approach to Lip Augmentation
No two patients are the same, which is why we work with you one-on-one to determine the anatomy of your unique set of lips. We enhance your unique features to give you the most natural and beautiful lips possible. Like artists painting a portrait, the artistic eye and technical excellence of the injector make all the difference. While the choice of product is part of that equation, it actually matters who is holding the syringe for your treatment. There is no substitute for experience.
What Type of Lip Filler is Used?
Zenn Plastic Surgery offers lip fillers that contain a primary ingredient known as hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a compound that occurs naturally in the body that helps cells stay hydrated.
Generally, the expert dermal injector at Zenn Plastic Surgery, aesthetic nurse specialist, Mary Shaver, uses one of the following aesthetic injectable lip fillers:
- Restylane®, which provides definition and lift to the lips without distorting the lips’ natural shape
- Juvéderm® Ultra XC, which features a slightly higher concentration of hyaluronic acid for even more plumping action
- Volbella™, which provides the most natural-looking augmentation with the longest-lasting results
- Of course, there are other lip fillers available, and the experts at ZPS may recommend one of these depending on your particular treatment goals
What Happens at a Lip Augmentation Consultation?
It is during the initial consultation at the office when Mary Shaver, the specialist injector will determine the type of lip filler that will work best for you. To determine this, she will ask questions about your goals. Then Mary will take a look at your medical history. And finally, she will examine your lips to see how they currently look, both in isolation and relative to the aesthetic of your face.
You will also have the chance to look at before-and-after photos of other patients to see what kind of results you like. This can assist you in determining the best plan of action for the result you desire.
What the Lip Augmentation Experience is Like…
The lip filler procedure itself is fast and simple. Immediately prior to your lip augmentation procedure, we take pictures of your lips. As the procedure begins, we apply a numbing cream to your lips. We then allow about a ten minute waiting period in order for the numbing cream to take full effect. Lips can feel big at this point but have not changed in size yet.
This experience is very similar to the aftereffects you may have felt after the dentist numbs your mouth. During this time you may recall your cheek, nose, or even lips feel bigger when in reality they are not. Next, the injection starts. This occurs with a fine needle to inject the fillers and is relatively painless. The results are immediate. One can even see the result of each injection by directly comparing the “done” side to the non-injected side to truly appreciate the change. When finished your “after” photos are taken. Many of our patients share their results with friends on social media right then and there!
For the first few days after the procedure, your lips may have some swelling and bruising. But this will quickly subside and your full, natural, beautiful and very youthful and full lips will emerge.
How Long Do the Results from Lip Fillers Last?
The longevity of lip fillers depends on the product that the nurse injector, Mary Shaver R.N. uses to fill your lips. Most lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid. Which is actually a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate the lips. When first injected this substance attracts water molecules that glom onto the filler. This is what gives the lips a plumper appearance. Over time, the body naturally absorbs and breaks down the hyaluronic acid. Once the hyaluronic acid is completely gone, the lips revert to their original appearance.
The four most common brands of lip fillers on the market are Restylane, Juvéderm, Vollure™, and Volbella. Restylane and Juvéderm last for approximately six months and provide natural plumpness that doesn’t look fake or overdone. Volbella is a product that smooths out vertical lip lines, with a lifespan of about 12 months. Finally, Vollure is the longest-lasting lip filler option with results lasting up to 18 months.
The good news is that when your lip fillers begin to fade, you can simply return to Zenn Plastic Surgery for additional lip augmentation treatment. Many ZPS patients receive lip filler injections on a regular basis to preserve their plump lips without any major side effects. Patients who desire more permanent lip fullness often schedule maintenance injections at 6-month to one-year intervals.
Keep in mind, Zenn Plastic Surgery also offers a more permanent option for maintaining full voluptuous lips, fat grafting.
When Kissing, Do Lips With Filler Feel Any Different Than Real Lips?
Because lip fillers are natural substances found in the body, they are soft and when placed correctly should not form lumps or hard areas in the lips. Any bumps that do occur can easily be massaged away. Lip injections should not affect the nerves of the lips and therefore would not affect the sensation of kissing.
Since the lips are quite sensitive, patients undergoing lip injections at Zenn Plastic Surgery get a topical numbing agent. This helps to minimize the pain or discomfort of the injection. Additionally, note that the filler material itself has a numbing agent that works as soon as it is injected. This also helps to improve the overall experience of lip injection.
Numbness from the injection and the topical cream generally last about an hour. During this time take care not to drink hot liquids and avoid accidentally biting your lips.
Your partner may notice an increase in the size and plumpness of your lips after treatment. However, your lips should feel relatively normal after the initial swelling disappears over a few days. After that time, you can kiss away!
