A Minimally Invasive Way To Look Younger

Dermal fillers are soft, gel-like substances that are injected under the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and soften creases or enhance facial contours. As we age, our body starts to lose collagen, an important substance that keeps skin hydrated, supple, and youthful-looking. At Zenn Plastic Surgery, Master Injector Tara Cypher RN, MSN, CANS, uses our dermal fillers in Raleigh to rejuvenate cheeks, lips, mouth area, crevices, lines, and wrinkles.

A Variety Of Dermal Fillers To Choose From

Zenn Plastic Surgery offers several different options for dermal fillers in Raleigh, each with its own properties and suggested applications. Advanced Nurse Injector Tara Cypher, RN, MSN, CANS, has 20 years of knowledge and experience with dermal fillers, and guides each patient to the filler that is most beneficial to your particular areas of concern.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Like Radiesse, FDA-approved Sculptra Aesthetic is another product that replaces collagen in the body, however with a different delivery protein. Sculptra is a product that is best administered by an advanced injector like Zenn Plastic Surgery Master Injector Tara Cypher RN, MSN, CANS, as it requires special advance preparation. Schedule a consultation with Tara to find out more.

Restylane®

Restylane is another excellent choice when it comes to hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. It is similar to the Juvéderm line of products. Like other dermal fillers, a small needle is used to inject the product. Restylane smooths away wrinkles, folds, and bumps on the skin. Effects generally last six months. If you seek treatment for a second time, at 4 ½ to 9 months after your first treatment, Restylane can last up to 18 months.

The Juvéderm® Family Of Fillers

The Juvéderm collection of dermal fillers treats multiple facial aging conditions and areas and includes the original Juvéderm formula, Ultra, Ultra Plus, Volbella, Volure, and Voluma. Thanks to the hyaluronic acid (HA) of Juvéderm® fillers, patients gain immediate facial volume. Each product differs in consistency and duration of action, and can be used in specific areas to achieve beautiful results. Juvéderm products allow the skin to retain moisture better, feel softer, and receive the key nutrients it needs for a more youthful appearance.

Radiesse®

Collagen is the key to soft and supple skin in youth. Unfortunately as we age, collagen production decreases, causing the skin to sag. Radiesse stimulates the body to make more collagen. Radiesse is often used to rejuvenate the face and hands and is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a mineral naturally found in the body. Following a Radiesse session, some bruising and swelling may occur, however, these symptoms will not last long. Most patients are able to return to daily activities fairly quickly. Results are apparent immediately, and due to the stimulation of new collagen production, they generally improve over time and last as long as one year, sometimes two. When the effects of Radiesse eventually begin to diminish, an occasional “touch-up” treatment can help to maintain optimal results.

How Much Does A Dermal Filler Treatment Cost?

All of the fillers available at Zenn Plastic Surgery cost between $450 and $1300 per syringe. Each product has its own specific cost, and sometimes more than one syringe is necessary to achieve the desired results. Our Master Injector Tara Cypher RN, MSN, CANS, will explain her product recommendation and pricing before any procedure occurs.

Preparing for Dermal Fillers

Proper preparation can help ensure the best results and minimize side effects from your dermal filler treatment. To get ready for your appointment, consider the following steps:

  • Avoid blood thinners: Refrain from aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements like fish oil a week before treatment to reduce bruising.
  • Limit alcohol intake: Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment to prevent swelling.
  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to support skin health and optimal healing.
  • Skip certain skincare products: Stop using retinoids, exfoliants, or other strong skincare treatments a few days before your session.
  • Plan ahead: Schedule your appointment at least a week before any major events to allow time for minor swelling or bruising to subside.

What Is Recovery Like After Dermal Fillers?

Recovery after dermal fillers is generally quick and minimal. Most patients experience mild swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection sites, which typically subsides within a few hours to a few days. You can resume normal activities immediately, though it’s advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, or alcohol for 24-48 hours to reduce the risk of complications. The results typically reach their best appearance after 3-4 weeks, once swelling and bruising have subsided, and the product has fully integrated into the skin. Any post-treatment discomfort is usually mild and temporary.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes, dermal fillers are considered safe when administered by a skilled and experienced professional. They are FDA-approved and commonly used for facial rejuvenation. However, as with any cosmetic procedure, choosing a qualified practitioner is essential to minimize risks.

How long will my results last?

The longevity of your results depends on the type of filler used, the area treated, and your individual metabolism. Typically, hyaluronic acid-based fillers last between 6 to 12 months, while others, like collagen-stimulating fillers, may last up to 2 years.

Can I ever get my facial fillers reversed?

Yes, if you're unhappy with your results, hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be reversed using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which dissolves the filler. Other types of fillers, however, may not be reversible, but results will fade over time.

Does getting fillers hurt?

While some discomfort is possible, many dermal fillers contain a numbing agent to make the procedure more comfortable. The pain is usually mild and short-lived, with most patients reporting little to no pain during the treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients achieve their desired results after one treatment. However, some may require additional sessions to enhance or maintain results, particularly for larger areas or more significant volume restoration.

Are there any risks/side effects associated with dermal fillers?

Common side effects are mild and temporary, such as swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness at the injection site. More serious but rare risks include infection, lumps, or an allergic reaction. It's important to follow aftercare instructions to minimize these risks.

How long does it take for dermal fillers to settle?

It typically takes about 1 to 2 weeks for dermal fillers to fully settle and for any initial swelling or bruising to subside. During this time, the filler adjusts to your natural facial contours for the most natural-looking results.
