When women consider breast enhancement surgeries, they often wonder which one is best for them. A breast lift may be the answer for women who suffer from breasts that sag or droop excessively. Sometimes women choose to have an implant placed at the same time as the breast lift to gain lost volume (or to gain breast volume that she never had!) Many of Dr. Zenn’s patients do choose to have breast implants placed in combination with a breast lift. Still, he does a fair amount of breast lifts without the added augmentation. Sometimes, but not always, your breast size will be reduced if you decide to have only the breast lift.
What Is A Breast Lift?
A breast lift lifts and reshapes a woman’s breasts to a more youthful position on their chest. Body changes like skin elasticity and volume are prevalent symptoms that occur with aging that every woman experiences. The continual force of gravity acting on the weight of a woman’s breasts, combined with gradual deflation and loss of skin elasticity over time, cause the breasts to sag and droop. Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, genetics, and the natural aging process all contribute to this and can accelerate the process. Even though a lifted breast has the same volume after surgery, the cup size often changes. This is because a breast with a lot of sag requires a larger cup-sized bra to support the sagging breast and be comfortable. Once the shape of the breast is improved even with the same volume, a smaller, more comfortable cup size can be worn.
A breast lift will change the position of your breasts but requires enough volume left in the breast to make your breasts look fuller or rounder. Dr. Zenn will examine you and be able to tell you if there is enough volume to create a more beautiful breast. If not, a breast lift would not be reasonable unless some volume is added. In other words, a breast augmentation would need to be performed simultaneously with the breast lift.
Combining A Breast Lift With A Breast Augmentation
Many of Dr. Zenn’s patients choose to have a breast augmentation with their breast lift. This allows women to have fuller, rounder breasts while benefiting from the lifted breast position they once had in their youth.
If you choose to have a breast augmentation in conjunction with your breast lift, the number and types of scars will depend on the size of the breast augmentation chosen. Additionally, the degree of nipple elevation desired will play a role in if and where you may have a scar.
